I put all my short-sleeved and 3/4 length shirts in one section organized by color (HollyLynne - I remembered that idea came from Crossroads!), all facing the same direction. They all have to face in the same direction even if it means taking the clothes off the hanger and putting them back on because Chris puts clothes on hangers the opposite way I do (leftie vs. rightie).
Here's my long-sleeved section which I have to say is painfully small for someone who lives in Ohio where we get more than a few days of cold weather. And, of course, organized by color (don't ask how I decide what color to start with because I don't have an answer for that), all facing in the same direction.

My new closet has these awesome built-ins that I use for socks, running shorts, tanks and jammies. On the very top I have my winter sweaters. They're kind of hard to reach so I haven't decided if they'll move down to a more convenient spot once the cold weather hits (which is most definitely not soon as the forecast for tomorrow is 90 - boooo!) or if I'll get a step stool for the closet.
OCD? Yes, no? I'm going with yes, but oh how the organization makes me happy :)

I'm someone who desperately aspires to be tidy, but am a miserable failure at it. In college, and in my first apartment, when my closets were bigger (how often do people say that?!), it was organized by color like yours. Now, however, I have a weird, two racked, not-quite walk-in closet with very little space. The hanging bars go into the depth of the closet instead of the width like a normal closet, so the stuff I rarely wear gets shoved to the back. I would NEVER post a picture of the mess! I will however, confess to making sure everything hangs the same direction. Like you, I will rehang things that face the wrong way.
I don't know how you have the willpower to have THAT MUCH closet space and not utterly fill it up with junk. Thats how I got into my whole mess :)
Melanie, this looks like my closet, except I have not separated by arm length...I am going to try that.
Also, I hang using ROY G BIV, reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues and violets. Neutrals are last (black, gray and white). I hang the browns with the oranges.
Great job!
You and Handmade Mama are nuts! Nuts, I tell you!
